When we had the first EHCP done we were told that the hardest part was the LA ageing to the twins needing help and giving them funding to get the extra help they needed in school. Once we had the first EHCP done it was so vague it was no help at all really, but we were told to work with it for the first year. Once Georgia started to show more and more symptoms from her FASD the school started to struggle with her but she is in a little village school and the extra money she brought into the school started to seem like the most important thing, I’m not saying that it was but it really did feel that way, when Georgia would start to have melt downs she was being taken into the heads office and got to look at the pretty lights play games and even eat lunch one on one with the head teacher, which Georgia loved and it would clam her down but it wasn’t helping her really. The head teacher had to move on and the school got a new one, I had a meeting with the Senco who for the first time I felt like she was able to really say how things were going and what needed to happen. It was a great relief leaving that meeting as all along I was told if the school say they cant meet the twins’ needs that’s it the LA have no choice but to move her to a better setting for her, how wrong everyone has been. The senco since that meeting has been great she helps at every turn and when I have meetings with her now I feel like we are getting somewhere, and to be honest she does have to put up with a lot from me cos I don’t know if it comes across on here but I’m really funny ( well I think I am) and I say a lot of things I shouldn’t. her and the new head that came in really work well with Georgia although her being on part time timetable is hard they both are bending over backwards to get Georgia the help she needs and to get into a special provision, but Devon County Council 0 – 25 worker assigned to Georgia who I was believed was here to help her until she is 25 seems to just want to do everything in her power to keep Georgia in a school that has admitted its not safe for her and they cant meet her needs. The school has done everything they can put things in place to help her and keep her and the other kids safe but there is only so much they can do and the fact now she has to have two teachers with just her how can the LA expect a little school to continue that.
So now with the schools help and DiAS guidance we are starting the tribunal fight we have been told there is a 50 week wait, however we are also told that 98% of tribunals are going in favor of parents so why the hell are Doven County Council using money to fight cases if they are loosing that many do they think we like having to fight all the extra stress we don’t need? Well we are one family that will not stop fighting until Georgia is in the right place so bring it on.
